Eyebrows make or break a person’s face, so you better get ‘em right! Here are some tips on how to create the perfect brow:

Do Not Over Pluck!

Gone are the days of having eyebrows so thin that one hair follows the next. Forget the thin or thick brow trends- always go with your natural brow shape. Never pluck above (unless you have a wandering stray) and just pluck out the stray hairs underneath, leaving your natural arch.

Do Not Wax

Okay, you can go get your eyebrows waxed by a professional once, but only as a guide to get the perfect shape. Waxing your eyebrows pulls on the sensitive thin skin above your eye. If you continue to wax, it will eventually result in potentially saggy lids.

Right Between the Eye(brows)

Do not pluck a huge space between your two eyebrows — your brow should not start any further in than 0.5 cm before the inner corner of your eye. Too many people keep going, giving the illusion of mega wide set eyes (not in a good way).

Trim the Long Ends

Using a comb, brush your eyebrows straight up — trim anything that sticks up over the top of your brow.

Fair brows? Shade ‘em In!

Even if your eyebrows have the perfect arch, for those of you who are fair, that arch may be hard to see. Eyebrow pencils leave a harsh line that can be noticeable to others. The best bet is to buy an eye shadow that is close to your hair color; use an angled brush and apply using quick strokes within the brow. This is also great if you over plucked and need to fill in some gaps, giving the illusion of full brows.

Heels look hot- That’s why girls wear them! But they’re so hard on the feet- which is why I decided to buy a pair of cute flats when I went shoe shopping. Do you k now how I was rewarded for making the right choice? With bloody heels and having to walk 15 of my 20 minute walk barefoot on the sidewalk. This is the 3rd time I’ve opted for flats and this has happened; so even supposed “comfy” shoes ruin your heels!

It is hard to wrap my head around the fact that we can put a man on the moon, but someone has not yet created a [cute] shoe that is comfortable from the first moment you first put it on. I know shoes “get” comfy after you break them in, but why do we have to suffer for the first 2 weeks or so!? Until then, I guess we’ll just have to stock up on our favorite adhesive bandages from our pharmacy of choice.

The Price is Right

Purchase 10 cleaning or household items; for instance, cleaners, polishes, detergents, soaps, etc. Set them out for everyone to see and have them guess the grand total of all items. The closest to the total price wins a prize.

Pass the Balloon

Have the party guests stand in a circle. The guests will pass the balloon around the circle to a song. The host will be in charge of the music and randomly stop it. Whoever is holding the balloon when the music stops has to sit down and can no longer play. Keep this going until there is one person left; the last person standing wins a prize.

Brand Name

Cut 12-15 grocery/cleaning/drug items out of a flyer or magazine. Paste each item onto index cards and black out the brand name of the item with a permanent black marker. Number the index cards and have the guests guess which brand name each item is. The person who has the most correct wins a prize.

Pin the Veil on the Bride

Just like ‘Pin the Tail on the Donkey”- draw a profile of the bride on a large piece of bristol board and make a pretty veil out of lace material. Each guest puts on the blind fold and tries to ‘pin the veil on the bride’. Whoever pins the veil closest to where the bride should be wearing her veil wins a prize.

Who am I?

Each guest is given an index card with their bridal shower invitation. The guest is to type out a memory that they had with the bride. At the shower, the bride has to guess who wrote down each memory. This is a great game to play so guests at the shower know how everyone knows the bride.

What’s in a Name

Make pre-printed sheets with the bride and the grooms’ first and last name at the top. Each guest has to try and make as many words as possible out of the letters in their names. The words have to be at least 4 letters long and each letter from their names can only be used once. The guest with the most words wins!

Guessing Game

Fill a jar with chocolates or jellybeans. Have the guests guess how many are in the jar. Whoever guesses the closest wins the jar!

Wedding Dress

Have several rolls of toilet paper on hand. Separate your party guests into groups of 3-5 people. Each group has to pick a model (preferably the mother of the bride, or the mother of the groom, etc.) and the group then has to create a wedding dress on their model out of toilet paper. They can make accessories (veil, rings, head pieces, corsages, etc.). Give each group about 20 minutes to finish their dress and have the bride pick her favorite dress.

The Wedding is Over

Tell your guests that the wedding is over, and the Bride must prepare for her wedding night, BUT the electricity went out so she has to get ready for her night (hotel room, cruise, etc.) in the dark. Have the bride blindfolded and hand he r a suitcase of clothes and accessories (hats, sunglasses, men’s underwear, big bra, work gloves, scuba equipment, etc). Tell her she has to “get dressed” in the dark and then remove the blindfold when she’s finished for some memorable pictures!

Draw It

Hand each guest a piece of blank paper, pen and a hard cover book. Tell them to write their name on the back of the paper and place the paper back on the book (clean side facing up). They then have to put the book on top of their heads and draw the bride on her wedding day to the best of their ability. When finished, they can remove the book from their heads and view their masterpieces. The bride then votes on the best drawing (not knowing who drew it) and flips over the paper to see who wins a prize!

Mineral make-up is simply that: Minerals. You won’t find parabens, preservatives, petroleum products or talc in Mineral makeup. This makes mineral makeup great for people with acne or sensitive skin; and because it’s a mineral, it also has a calming effect on your skin.

Glow

Since those little specs of powder are actually minerals, it makes your skin glow! (think of the shiny sand on the beach). This was the first thing I noticed when my friend bought mineral powder — her skin was just glowing!

Mineral Powder is Ultra Lightweight

It doesn’t soak into your pores like regular foundation; it acts like shingles on a roof and stays on the outer layer of your skin. This gives it a very lightweight texture that’s not clammy or caked-on like regular foundation. It doesn’t feel like there’s anything on your face at all, and it’s perfect for the summer heat!

Fast Beauty with Mineral Powder

This is probably the best selling feature for me; using mineral foundation has cut my morning routine in half! The brand I purchased has a starter kit with 3 powders and a brush. You sweep on the all over powder, apply the bronzer where the sun would hit your face (forehead, nose, cheeks, chin), and then apply the blush on your cheekbones. This takes less than 30 seconds, and if all I add is mascara to the routine, I look ready to go!

I went for an evening walk in Point Pleasant Park in Halifax, NS the other day and halfway into the park my friend squealed “AHHH a coyote!”. Not seeing anything with my own eyes, and knowing she has a slight fear of dogs to begin with, I made a point to tease her all weekend about her alleged “coyote sighting”- involving everyone I could, of course!

The following week we returned to the park. Still taunting her about her coyote sighting, I assured her that because it was daylight, the “coyotes” would not be present. At one point in the walk we had to stop for a bathroom break. While she was in the bathroom, I decided to read some signs posted nearby and what did I see:

The day began at 5:30 am with Hip Hop Abs with Shawn T. Can’t believe it, I am now a Yellow Belt. Six months ago and no one could have told me that I would be a student of martial arts. Thus Shawn T at 5:30, must get stronger and in better shape. Let’s go Shawn T. Later in the morning, appointment with Chiropractor, tune up for tonight.

Almost time for class, so sore I can harly move, better soak my feet. All dressed, yellow belt, looking good!

Class time warmup, what’s this, calling out random patterns. Breathe, listen, you know it. Oh crap, what am I doing facing her, should be facing the other direction. Keep going, can only go up from here.

Where’s a camera when you need it. Next comes the drills, running and dropping into push-ups. Good, finished that and still breathing. Now running and dropping into crunches. One minute I’m blazing down the mat, not sure what happened, then I’m on my face, glasses flying through the air. Are you okay? Yes and I jump up pumping back down the floor and then again, flat on my face. Adrenal pumping, up I jump and until class ends, I’m jumping, kicking and punching.

Finally at home, can’t move, run a bath and hope the hot water allows me to walk upright again. All in an awesome night of my new found sport, Tae Kown Do. So much for worrying about making a fool of yourself, haven’t had such a good laugh in a while reliving my show of strength. All in a night of getting fit and enjoying my new found sport.

Find Out What’s Hot Now

It’s hard to believe April is here and spring is finally here. With snow still in many parts of the country, many are wishing and praying for warmer weather. Most people have not really considered replacing sweaters and coats with shirts and jackets, but the time is here.

Stacked bracelets are back in fashion for spring. Plain silver bands or bracelets crowded with diamonds and every design in between are adorning arms. It doesn’t matter what your financial status is, wearing multiple bracelets will have you fitting in.

The slouchy pant has made a comeback. It is totally wearable for all kinds of body types. So whether you are short or tall, fat or skinny or anywhere in between, the slouchy pant may be for you. The length can stop just below the knee, at calf length, angle length or reach all the way to the floor. The slouchy pant for Spring 2010 is anything from a khaki or chino with a little more room through the hip, to the flowing wide legged beauties from Isaac Mizrahi, Marc Jacobs, Badgley Mischka, Oscar de la Renta and many more. Be advised to keep the top slim to balance the fullness on the bottom.

Blazers appear to be replacing cardigan sweaters. The blazer can be worn open or over-sized, as well as tailored and fitted. For a twist, the blazer can even be belted. Vests are also in fashion as the trend to layer our clothing continues.

The trend for shredded jeans has not disappeared, just taken a turn for the fancy. Replacing the space between the shreds are layers of lace. All kinds of denim will work. You can choose skinny, slouchy, shredded or tailored. A lighter weight to denim called chambray is also the new look. The chambray dress can be hooded, embroidered, basic or belted. The choices are endless.

Shirts and dresses can have ruffles and lace or sport the nude look. Colors can range from classic black and cream to bright, bold patterns and colors. Long skirts have slits cut to the top of the thigh and the jumpsuit is back for anther try.

If some years back you were a fan of the wide lapels for men along with the wide ties, then you are in luck, the look is back. For women, however, anything goes. She can mix and match colors and styles, stripes with flowers, short pants with blazers, formal with casual and denim with lace.

The canvas tennis shoe is back too. You can belt a dress or not belt a dress. You can add giant bright colored bows to your hair or wear a headband with a bow attached. Short boots, medium high boots or over the knee boots are acceptable. Big bags are in again and can be made of leather or pleather, basic black to bright green. It’s hard to go wrong in fashion this season.

What would happen if we all told the truth for just one day? That’s right, 24 hours of speaking your mind when it’s not proper, telling people what you think when they might not want to hear it, and throwing social norms to the curb when they’re the one thing people cling to the tightest. Well, if we had to take a guess, we’d say that many CEO’s would find out their employees hate them and are just staying in their job until they land the job they actually want, women would learn the hard way not to ask if their jeans make them look fat, and men and women alike would learn that many people do, in fact, still marry for money.

The first two statements probably don’t surprise you. The third might not either, but for those of you thinking that the “MRS degree” is a thing of the past, think again. So let’s stop pretending and put it out there—women still marry for money. Maybe they don’t marry only for the money, but make no mistake about it, money is still a big factor in many marriage decisions. In fact, chances are that even you, yes you, the shining example of moral integrity, have made a relationship decision based on money. And you might not have even realized it until now. You know those thoughts you’ve had when considering a new relationship, or even when considering ending a relationship? That fleeting “well the money is/would be nice” thought? Yes, that’s the one—the one that tells you you’ve considered money in a dating decision. But that’s okay, that just means you’re human. So for those of us who admit to being human and caring about the money a partner will bring to a relationship, here’s a little guide on how to marry rich without pulling the Pretty Woman prostitute-who-steals-a-millionaire’s-heart-and-lives-happily-ever-after scenario.

First of all, if you want to marry rich, your best bet is to start by socializing rich. If you think about it, most relationships are formed through social circles, as it brings a level of pre-established trust to the relationship. You can socialize rich by joining business associations in your community and attending events, upping the amount of time you spend with your “well-off” friends and becoming more involved in their daily routines and events, or even through becoming a part of a local charity, as many wealthy people often serve on the boards of these charities.

Another option, if college is still in your future, is to go for the same tactic as those ever-popular MRS degree seekers. If you don’t know, an MRS degree is a term used to by those who only attend college to get married (hence the “Mrs.”) and be taken care of. While your ultimate goal may not be to meet someone and never make use of your real degree, there’s no question that certain schools (Ivy league, for example) attract a more wealthy student body, and attending these schools allows you to interact with these people every day and form real relationships which could lead to something more.

Marrying rich may have a stigma, but if you’re confident enough to own the fact that it’s a goal of yours, and you’re not trying to hurt anyone in the process, and have it all, there are plenty of fish in the sea. And hey, if these techniques don’t work, there’s always Millionaire Matchmaker.

Spring Fashions Trends On A Budget

This is a great year to be fashion forward on a budget. Most stores’ price points seem to be falling as fast as hemlines are rising. Some trends are also continuing into the spring which definitely helps balance your budget. Spend a little extra time to shop smart and you will be even more trendy than you usually are and most importantly under-budget.

1. Keepers: Skinny scarves, skinny jeans, boyfriend jeans, over-sized bags, metallic pieces, black tights, and jumpsuits are all still holding over from last season, so there’s no need to send these items packing. Every item that remains trendy over seasons keeps you from having to go out and buy new – quite a budget friendly scenario!

2. Bold Color: While you might not be able to spring for an entire outfit in the season’s hottest color, turquoise, buy a cute accessory such as a scarf or belt in the blue-green hue for a chic but cheap update to your ensemble. Repeat with red, which was the second most seen color to hit the runways in 2010.

3. Black and White: Color dominated the runway for spring 2010, but neutrals, blacks and whites held their own too. This is an easy look to achieve – just mix and match your black and white pieces.

4. Army Jackets and other Military Wear: Warmer weather means that the little black leather jacket that dominated winter wear has lost its practicality, and the equally edgy army jacket is poised to take its place. Since the style parameters for this look are loose – you can go with long, short, green, or khaki – affordable options abound.

5. Unexpected Denim: Every wardrobe has a few pair of trusty blue jeans in rotation, but for the 2010 spring season, this budget friendly material is hot in shirts, dresses, and vests, or if you’re really fashion forward, layered all together!

6. Clean Aesthetics: Simple, un-fussed and under-adorned shirts and dresses are cheaper to produce, so they are also cheaper to purchase. Happily, graphic heavy apparel is on its way out and clean and simple are the new standard.

7. Think Vintage, Shop Thrift Store: Most high end vintage shops get their fresh finds from the same thrift store your grandma shops at. You are paying extra to have them scour the racks for you. Take out the middle man and search for your vintage and distressed looks (or that military jacket!) at your local secondhand stores.

8. Knee or Thigh Highs: Exciting colors and unexpected patterns are the staple of this super-hot but relatively cheap trend. Layer these with tights for an ultra modern look.

9. Shop Your Closet: Many of the trends for spring 2010 are retreads from the recent past. For example, if you lived through the 1990s you have plenty of the aforementioned denim or knee highs stuffed somewhere in the back of your closet. If you toddled through that decade, consider raiding your mom’s or trendy aunt’s walk-in. Also look for clogs, leopard prints, lace, bold floral prints, one-shouldered shirts and overalls.

10. Drape, Drape, Drape: The runway loved the draped, often sheer, silhouette for spring 2010. While this can be a more expensive look, you can get crafty and try to achieve it yourself with a trip to a good fabric store and some clever experimentation.

Poll Shows Men Cheat More

As too many women know, men cheat. Women are not innocent themselves but now there’s a new study that proves those feminine theories.

The dating site Smooch.com found in a poll of more than 7,000 members that over a quarter of men, or 35 per cent, confessed to having an affair at one point in their lives.

Most men have strayed at least once by the time they reach their 60s, claims a new survey.

This is in comparison to only 29 per cent of women who were unfaithful.

The survey found the surprising trend that younger men are the least likely to stray. Only 31 per cent of young men have cheated.

However, faithfulness in true love falls aside as men get older, with almost half, or 44 per cent, of men over 60 admitting to being unfaithful to their spouse.

Less shockingly, the better-looking a man has the higher likelihood to cheat on his partner. Men over 6ft (43 per cent) those with high salaries (65 per cent) and also those with Adonis-like bodies (47 per cent) were the most likely to end up in another woman’s bed.

However, looks aren’t everything. Men with beards were a staggering 85 per cent likely to have something on the side.
